Charade Quilt Along Fabric Choices

Hey Quilty Friends!

As we set out to make the Charade Quilt, the question I get more than any other is - WILL YOU HAVE A KIT?

In all transparency, I tried doing kits once upon a time, and it isn’t my jam and I just don’t have time. I work full-time as a nonprofit consultant. Jittery Wings is a Hobby Business.

So, I have worked to search out possible kits with links for you and I have partnered with some of my favorite shops and designers to provide you with kits. They are “first come” and you purchase them directly from the shop or designer.

In the video below, I share about making fabric choices and some other tidbits to get you started.

THANKS for being here! I can’t wait to see your makes. Remember to post them on social media using #charadequilt and @jitterywings.

Things to Consider When Making Your Fabric Choices

Tip 1: Solids and Blenders are the way to go! Solids are well, a solid color of fabric with no print or other colors present. Blenders are fabrics with “hints” of prints, but when you hold it out, you see less of the print and more of the color the fabric reads. Basically, blenders that give the fabric texture is what you are looking for in this palette. Small and even large prints on the fabric that contrast with the background fabric will make the final quilt feel cluttered and chaotic. They will draw your eye away from the full quilt as the design.

Tip 2: Good shops have good eyes for color. If a curated fabric bundle by a shop or fabric company draws your eye then it is likely a good option to just purchase the bundle and stick with it. You can of course add and subtract from it as you’d like. The original bundle for this quilt in reds and pinks was exactly that. I used the full bundle.

I used an Art Gallery Pure Solids Bundle called Harvesting (The new Harvesting is different) for my original quilt. I don’t believe that one is still on the market, but the ones I have pictured below are all stunning. Most contain a couple more than the 18-20 needed, but honestly, I just used the entire bundle and made an extra row on my Throw. They also have Half Yard bundles available for those who want to make a Queen.

FOR MY FRIENDS IN THE UK: I have partnered with Cow and Giraffe to offer you an option to purchase in the UK. Their links are below.

CHALK & CHARCOAL BY JENNIFER SAMPOU

(PRE-ORDER KITS)

I WILL BE USING THIS FOR THE QUILT ALONG

I love Jennifer’s Chalk and Charcoal. It is the perfect blender for all my Controlled Improv Designs. I am partnering with her and her team to provide you with the option to pre-order the 2021 New Colors collection. Click Here to Pre-Order. NOTE: You will need 1.5 for a Throw - so you could just buy 2 and make the quilt a little larger.

SPECIAL CRIMSON TATE BUNDLES

I will be using this to make a Queen for the Quilt Along

I found this and fell in LOVE! My friends at Crimson Tate are working to get links for some new fun and perfect bundles, but they are also working to prep for bringing the PARTY to QuiltCon at the end of the month. As soon as I have their links, I will post them here. Please check back here and save them from getting multiple emails asking about the bundles…THANKS!
